Join us to explore beneath the waves

Welcome to Deep Med, a professional and holistic freediving education centre located on the beautiful island of Gozo. Run by a passionate freediver, we offer courses and training programs that focus on a higher quality experience, setting ourselves apart from the average freediving school and instructors who offer standard two or three day courses.

We pride ourselves on providing a unique and immersive freediving experience, including opportunities for underwater exploration such as wreck diving, caves, and swim throughs. With our very own RIB, we have access to all dive sites around the islands and the freedom to dive to unlimited depths, surrounded by tranquility away from the more popular dive sites.

Our accommodation, available through our packages, includes three bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. We believe in the power of underwater play and our training weeks and courses are designed to allow you to fully immerse yourself in the Mediterranean.

Our freediving family is ever-expanding, with many of our clients becoming friends who keep returning to the island. We hope you’ll join us and become a part of this wonderful community of freedivers.

Meet your freediving instructor

Deep Med’s owner, Fabrice, is enthusiastic about the sea both off and on land. Born in Malta & exposed to the sea from day 1, his earliest and happiest memories are his playful adventures in the water. Throughout his teenage years he took up sailing and started a career in the Maritime industry as a navigation Officer.

As time progressed, a deeper connection with the sea developed through the art of breath-hold. A connection he wishes to pass onto you through his methods of teaching.

After many years facilitating hundreds of students, Fabrice discovered that it is imperative to spend more time in the water, no matter the level of freediving. Deep Med’s longer programmes create a safe and relaxed space to learn skills properly and effectively.

Fabrice enjoys depth diving as well as the recreational side; exploring coastlines, freediving wrecks, cave diving and swim-throughs! Fabrice will do his best to immerse you into his world through Deep Med’s experience.

During the winter months, he recharges by getting back into fitness, cold water swimming, deep-dive training whilst also broadening his equalization knowledge and teaching skill-set.

Our freediving philosophy

First and foremost, it’s important that you have fun and enjoy your journey, no matter the outcome. Freediving is all about mastering a number of individual skills, which when applied simultaneously will lead to ultimate relaxation and comfort while in the water. Progress should never be rushed. Instead, we take things slow so that both body and mind are aligned, while bearing in mind that each and every individual is different, we make sure that our training is personalised so as to achieve the best possible results.

We do not limit you to a specific depth nor do we push you to achieve a certificate, which creates expectations and needless pressure. We do encourage the potential when we see it, while we do certify you for whatever level you achieve, even if it’s your first time freediving. We also don’t believe in two-day courses that offer little time to learn all necessary skills properly. On the contrary, we recommend a minimum of a week-long freediving course with rest days in between so that you can acquire new skills and techniques, put these into practice, while making the most of this journey.
