Learn how to Frenzel & mouthfill with an EQ specialist: All online

Learn the Frenzel or mouthfill technique under the guidance of an instructor, all online! This method has been fine-tuned over the past ten years by one of the world’s best equalisation masters, Federico Mana.

This course aims to improve beginner freedivers’ Frenzel technique or switch those who use the Valsalva technique. The Frenzel maneuver is the most basic and fundamental equalization technique needed for freediving.

The mouthfill is an advanced equalisation technique that was invented by Eric Fattah and has revolutionised the way freedivers can dive beyond their residual volume. It allows divers to reach extraordinary depths in a very safe way, eliminating or minimising the risk of pulmonary edema. This technique is a stepping stone and builds upon the Frenzel equalisation method taught in the online Frenzel course.

If you have reached depths of around 30 to 35 meters and are struggling with normal Frenzel equalisation, the mouthfill course is for you. You will learn how to charge the mouth and compress the air with your cheeks, jaw, and tongue.

In the Frenzel course you will learn:

Basic skills
You will learn to feel your glottis, move your tongue in the right way, and use your cheeks and jaw to compress air.

Simulation of descent
Learn how to compress air simulating head down conditions

Phonetics
Through Phonetics, you will learn how to link the oropharynx and the nasopharynx to reach the ear tubes and how to manage these air spaces in order to feel and fill them with air as if they were one space only.

Lock Removal
In the lesson, 2 exercises to learn how to remove the tongue and palate locks: two crucial structures for the correct performance of the Frenzel manoeuvre.

Frenzel
This live classroom is about connecting the dots, bringing together the established skills to perform a perfect and conscious Frenzel manoeuvre.

In the Frenzel course you will learn:

In the Mouthfill course you will learn:

Basic skills
You will learn to feel your glottis, move your tongue in the right way, and use your cheeks and jaw to compress air.

Phonetics
Through Phonetics, you will learn how to link the oropharynx and the nasopharynx to reach the ear tubes and how to manage these air spaces in order to feel and fill them with air as if they were one space only.

Soft pallet control
In this lesson, you’ll learn to manage the soft palate in oro and nasopharyngeal high-pressure conditions.

Air translation
In this self-paced, you will learn to recognize how you can move air in different ways and the three ways to perform Frenzel.

Mouthfill
You’ll learn to detect and manage the glottis as it opens and closes, synchronising it to the air compression and the relevant opening and closing of the soft palate. That is to say, we are going to learn how to perform a perfect Frenzel Fattah maneuver (Mouthful).

Weekly online sessions

The course has a number of modules which span over seven weeks. An online session is held once a week to learn new skills and practice them for the next session.

Items you need

You need proper lighting for your instructor to see all the moving parts during the practice. We highly recommend a ring light or similar. Finally, you would need an Ottovent/ EQ tool and a balloon. The Ottovent can be purchased from Amazon or your local pharmacy. The EQ tool can be purchased from any freediving online shop. For self practice, a mirror.

How the system works

Do you remember trying to ride a bike or something similar? In the beginning, you’re all over the place, but with time and repetition, you eventually get it.

The process of learning equalization is the same. It’s all about awareness and motor control. Think of the course as a chain, with each link representing a module. As we progress from one module to the next, stress is gradually added, which is why it’s important to practice daily! If a link is broken, the chain won’t work.

Dry equalization training is the best way to learn, as it’s the foundation for what you need in the water. Working in a low-stress environment is crucial for learning as quickly as possible.

What's next?

Learning the mouthfill with an EQ tool and a balloon is one thing, but trying it in the water is another!

We would first recommend practicing the management of the air inside the oral cavity using a special EQ tool called the bubbler or the digital product from UBA project. These devices replicate what happens at depth by letting air out and reducing the volume of air inside the oral cavity.

You can then put your skills to the test by practicing some shallow mouthfill drills during our coaching programs or with whichever instructor you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you need access to water?

Dry equalisation practice is the foundation of your mouthfill skills and is essential to learn with little stress. Once you you are comfortable with the techniques you can then move onto the water. Try out our coaching sessions and take a look at our packages.

  • What tools are needed?

The share equalisation method fully utilises the Ottovent or Eq tool, a balloon and a bright light such as a ring light. For self practice you would need a mirror.

  • How successful is this method?

100% bullet proof. The founder of this method has spent 10 years developing the protocols and it has been fine tuned through experience of teaching thousands of customers.

  • Can I request one on one?

Yes you may however the instructor only takes 4 students at a go and the online sessions are tailored. Each student gets to practice the exercises in front of the instructor so he sees exactly what is going on. Afterwards, feedback is given. During your dry practice, you are welcome and encouraged to send videos (through Whatsapp) for your instructor to guide.
